What is UPSC ?



UPSC was earlier known as PSC. PSC (Public Service Commission) Public Service Commission in Hindi It was established on 1 October 1926. Later on 26 October 1950, PSC (Union Public Service Commission) was renamed as Union Public Service Commission by making some changes and expanding its rights.

UPSC conducts examinations for the appointment of Public Service Officers of the Government of India. It provides the requirement for Group A and Group B posts within the Government of India. The Civil Services Examination is done every year by UPSC in three stages- Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview. In these three stages, the selection of the successful candidate according to the priority and order of priority, conducts examinations for selection in IAS, IPS, IFS, NDA, CDS, CPF (AC), and other central services in the tests conducted by UPSC.

The Headquarter of the UPSC is in New Delhi and has a Chairman.

The UPSC consists of a chairman and 10 members. These members are members of a public service with a minimum of 10 years of experience. Their tenure lasts for 6 years or their age is 65 years. Members of the Commission are appointed by the President. Any member can submit his resignation to the President in the midst of his term of office or anytime.

UPSC Exam and for what qualifications to look for ?

For UPSC Exam, you must be a Graduation. But the qualification of NDA is 10 + 2, you can take it from any stream (Science, Art, Commerce, but you can test it.

UPSC Exam to the for your age limit what is supposed to ?

For giving ICS (Indian civil service) under UPSC, there should be at least 21 years for general category and maximum 32 years. For Other Backward Classes should be 21 years to 35 years. For the backward class, the age limit of 3 years is waived. SC and ST should be 21 to 37 years. The age limit of 5 years is waived for SC and ST. And for physical disability should be 21 to 42 years.

Note- The age limit of NDA is 16½ to 19½ and the educational qualification (10 + 2) PCM.

UPSC Exam you how many times you can do ?

There are different criteria for different posts in UPSC exams like - for ICS, general category candidates can take the exam 6 times. Candidates of Other Backward Class (OBC) category can appear 9 times and for other category like SC and ST till the age of 37, you can take the exam as many times as you want. Thus different for other post exams.

What is Syllabus of UPSC exam ?

Different examinations conducted by UPSC have different syllabus (Syllabus), which you can download Syllabus for which you are applying through the above mentioned website (). UPSC exam consists of two exams- Preliminary Examination (Main Examination).

The preliminary examination consists of two papers. The question paper is in both Hindi and English languages. Both papers have a duration of 2–2 hours.

The syllabus for the first question paper is as follows -

1. Current events of national and international importance.

2. History of India and Indian National Movement

3. Geography of India and the world Natural, social and economic geography

4. Indian polity and governance - Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, public policy, rights related issues etc.

5. Economic and social development - Sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demography, social sector initiatives etc.

6. General issues related to environmental ecology, biodiversity and climate change, for which subject matter expertise is not necessary.

7. General Science

The syllabus for the second question paper is as follows -

1. Perceptibility

2. Interpersonal skills including communication skills

3. Logical skills and analytical ability

4. Decision Making and Problem Solving

5. General mental ability

The main examination consists of 9 papers. Each paper is of descriptive type. It has 2 Qualifying Paper - Any Indian Language (Indian Language) and English (English). There are 4 question papers from General Studies. The course of general studies is of degree level. It consists of 2 papers in optional subject.

5. General Studies - Ethics, Integrity and Interest

Question Paper 7 ( Alternative Question Paper 1 and 2) -Agriculture, Geology, Political science, Sociology, Physics, Philosophy, Law, Economics, History, Psychology, Zoology, Geography, Public Administration etc. One can choose any optional subject from the list of optional subjects given expectation wise.

UPSC  What is the procedure for exam ?

The Civil Services Examination is conducted by UPSC in three phases every year - Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and Interview. The Preliminary Examination is based on Objective Question i.e. MCQ (Multiple Choice Question). From which the candidate's General Studies and CSAT (Civil Service Aptitude test) is assessed. There are two papers of 400 marks each of 200-200 marks. You have to bring at least 33% marks in this exam because it is a qualifying paper, in which 33% marks is required. After qualifying this exam, main examination is called for.

The main exam consists of papers of the subjects you have chosen. It consists of 9 papers. It has 2 qualifying papers - Indian Language and English. It is of 300 digits. But these marks are not counted in the main examination. In it, 4 General Studies paper is of total 1000 marks. Each paper carries 250 marks. It consists of 2 papers in optional subject which is of 500 marks. Both papers are of 250-250 marks. The essay is of 250 marks. Interview is called after qualifying the main examination.

The interview consists of a civil service personality test. After this, the merit list is prepared on the basis of main examination and interview. After that you are sent for training.

How to prepare for UPSC ?
