When did FSSAI start?
After independence there used to be Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 in our country. Apart from this, there were many other agencies working under different ministries and state governments.
But there was no central authority for this work in the country. Because of which there was a lot of confusion.
In this situation, an agency was needed to work for the whole country. Therefore, in the year 2006, food safety and standard act was made and food safety and standard authority was created under it.
The purpose of this authority is to examine the food items sold in the market in scientific ways and whatever food and food will be sold in the country. It will be sold only after this Authority Approval.
What is the function of FSSAI?
- FSSAI collaborates to maintain the standard set for the production and sale of food items at all state, district and gram panchayat levels in the country.
- FSSAI works to ensure the safe availability of production, distribution, sale, storage and import of nutritious food for human consumption.
- Guidelines for certification of laboratories for food testing have to be prepared and taken care of.
- To contribute to the development of international technology standards in food.
- The FSSAI also largely monitors the production and sales standards of foods controlled by various ministries.
- It serves to implement various provisions of the Food Safety Act of the states
- FSSAI periodically checks the quality of retail and wholesale food items.
- If a company has not produced its product as per the prescribed standard, then FSSAI may impose a ban on the sale of its product.
- The standards set by FSSAI such as the date of manufacture of the product to the company, the quantity of all types of chemical elements used in it are mandatory on its product.
What is the FSSAI license?
- Basic License - This license is taken when your company's annual turn over is less than 12 lakhs. In this, you can sell your product across the country. For this, Form A has to be filled. In this, you cannot write FSSAI number on your product. In this, you have to register. In this, you have to pay 100 rupees to register.
- State License - This license is taken when your company's annual turn over is between 12 lakh and 20 crores. In this, you can write the FSSAI number behind your product. For this, you have to fill in Form B.
- Central License - If your company's annual turn over is more than Rs 20 crore or you deal with import-export then you need a central license.
- If you want to apply for FSSAI license, then first you have to go to the foodlicensing.fssai.gov.in site. After visiting the website, first of all you have to check your eligibility.
- Which category do you want to trade and which license do you have to take? After this, a page will open in which you have to fill the details.
- After this, on the homepage you will get a link related to fee structure and documents, from where you can take complete information.
- After that you have to sign up. You enter username and password in it. A new page will open in which you have to fill all your information and click on register.
- After this, you can apply online by going to the How to apply link on the homepage.
- Beyond that you have the option of Track Application status on the homepage for your application tracking, you can track your application number by entering your application reference number there.
- It may take at least 30–45 days to become an FSSAI license.
