What is an IAS officer?
Full name of IAS IAS (Indian Administrative Services) is. To become an IAS, one has to pass the Union Public Service Commission i.e. UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) Civil Services Examination.

That is, officers who are selected in the Indian Administrative Service through the Civil Services Examination conducted by the UPSC are called IAS. In this selection is a very big achievement.

After becoming IAS, they play a huge role in building the country. IAS Officers have many ranks like
- Collector
- Commissioner (Commissioner),
- Head of public sector units,
- Chief Secretary
- There are posts like Cabinet Secretary etc.
UPSC is an organization which is given the responsibility to select IAS candidates. Every year 1000 people are selected for 26 services which have different posts.

- To become an IAS officer, you must be a graduate from any stream (BA, B.Com., B.Sc.) Or any discipline.
- Even if you are in the last year of graduation, you can take the exam for this.
- You must be at least 21 years of age to take the IAS exam.
- People in the general category can give up to a maximum age of 32 years. People from OBC category can give up to a maximum age of 35 years. And people of SC and ST category (SC and ST) can give up to a maximum age of 37 years.
How many times can you take the IAS officer (IAS) exam?
If you have general category (General Category) come in to give IAS exam six times and that's come in as backward (OBC Category) Class 9 times the test can give you and other poor in SC or ST class come to any number of times to give the test unless your age of 37 years may not be.
How is an IAS officer examination done?
The IAS officer exam is completed in three stages -
1. Prelims exam:
Preliminary examination consists of two papers of 200-200 marks. In this, multiple choice questions are asked. You have to score at least 33% in this exam. Depending on your hard work, you can also get more marks. The time available for this is 2 hours.
2. Main exam: In the
main examination you have to give 9 papers and the whole mark is 750 marks . In this exam, out of 9 subjects, more focus is on 7 subjects because merit list is made from 7 subjects only. It is a completely written test.
3. Interview:
After clearing both the exams, you are interviewed. The candidates who complete all these stages are selected for this most prestigious service in the country.
What should be read to take IAS officer exam?
You should listen to temporary content like Newspaper ( Business Standard like Business Standard ), Magazines (chronical, Yojana, Kurukshetra etc.), Radio News and also listen to Durdarshan News. Along with this, you should also have the IAS Celebs and Unsalted Question Paper. Apart from this, it is very important for 4 Civil Examinations (IAS) - political science, political science, geography, history, economics .

All these books should be of NCERT pattern. Apart from all these, there are other books like - International Relations, Environment, Art and Culture, Internal Security, Ethics Integrity and Aptitude, Essay ( essay), general science, economic survey etc.

What is the salary of an IAS officer?
According to the recommendations of the Seventh Commission, we can divide the full IAS cadre into 8 grades. Basic pay or salary and grade pay is different for each grade.
1. Junior Scale
These have a basic pay of Rs 50,000-1,50,000 and a grade pay of 16,500. In this, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) or Sub Collector (SDO) can be formed after 2 years of promotion.
2. Senior Time Scale In
this their basic pay ranges from 50,000-1,50,001 and grade pay is 20,000 and the service period is for 5 years. It consists of District Magistrate (DM) or Collector or Joint Secretary of Government Ministries.
3. Junior Administrative Grade,
their basic pay is up to 50,000-1,50,002 and grade pay is up to 23,000 and they are in service for 9 years. It consists of special secretary or heads of various government departments.
4.Selection grade,
their basic pay ranges from 1,00,000-2,00,000 and the grade pay is 26,000 and they are 12-15 years old. These include the Secretary of the Ministry.
5.Super time scale,
their basic pay ranges from 1,00,000 - 2,00,000 and grade pay is up to 30,000 and their service period is 17-20 years. These include the Chief Secretary of the Government Department.
6. Above super time scale,
their basic pay ranges from Rs 1,00,000-2,00,000 and grade pay is up to Rs 30,000. Their service duration varies and their positions vary.
7. The highest scale is
2,40,000, with a basic pay of 2,40,000 and grade pay is not compulsory. They have different service periods. These include Principal Secretary of State, Central Secretary of various Ministries of Government of India.
8. Cabinet Secretary Grade
Their basic pay is 2,70,000 and grade pay is not mandatory. And their service hours vary. It includes the Cabinet Secretary of India.
Civil service is of great importance in the society, so IAS officers are given all these facilities such as housing, including transport drivers, security, bills, medical, pension etc.
What are the functions and responsibilities of an IAS officer?
1. Their task is to maintain law and order in the city.
2. Implementation of Central and State Government policies at the ground level.
3. To handle the administration and daily proceedings of the Government including formulation and implementation of policy in consultation with the Minister-in-charge of the concerned Ministry or Department.
4. To act as an intermediate between public and government.
5. To lead entire departments and ministries of Government of India.
6. IAS officers represent the Government of India at international level in bilateral and multilateral negotiations.
7. They work in strategic and important positions in Central Government, State Governments and Public Sector Undertakings.
8. Conducts free and fair elections in India at various levels of administration under the direction of Election Commission of India.
